‘ZEC has failed!’ - Chamisa

By Gwendoline Mugauri

MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa says the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has proved to be incapable of leading a free and fair election - a situation which will prompt them to ask the African Union (AU) and the Southern African Development Committee (SADC) to urgently take over running of the electoral process to ensure credibility.

Addressing journalists at a media conference at Harvest House in Harare this morning, Mr Chamisa said the ZEC Chairperson have consistently turned a blind eye on irregularities requiring their attention – at the expense of the electorate.

Zim in election crisis

Mr Chamisa also declared that the nation is in an election crisis because of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission’s reluctance towards printing of a universally approved ballot paper – set to be used on Election Day.

He said the election will only go ahead if the ballot paper was agreed upon and this electoral process should not be treated like a Zanu PF primary election – but a national election.
