Stakeholders in the agriculture sector have welcomed the wheat producer price announced by government of 630 dollars per tonne for the 2018-2019 agricultural marketing season. Agro-economists said the new price will motivate farmers to grow more wheat in the upcoming season. In an interview with Capitalk FM news Mr Midway Bhunu however said there is need for government to address issues that affect production such as electricity cuts and lack of adequate irrigation systems.

Mr Freeman Gutsa said government should also review the maize producer price since the current $390 per tonne is not viable given the prices of seed and fertilizers.
