Newly appointed Finance and Economic Development Minister Professor Mtuli Ncube says one of his immediate goals as minister will be re-engaging international monetary institutions like the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank through clearing arrears the country has with these bodies.

Speaking to journalists after the swearing-in ceremony of minister and deputy ministers at State House yesterday morning, Minister Ncube said he will work towards the return of a Zimbabwean currency and also cutting on government expenditure.

He said the re-branding of Zimbabwe will be of importance in luring business into the country. “I want to appoint an international economic advisory board of eminent persons who can help us with branding globally. Domestically, I want to make sure we have the fiscal consolidation that is needed to stabilise and restore balances in the fiscal space.”

Meanwhile, newly appointed Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Sekesai Nzenza says she is optimistic that she will deliver on her mandate as per expectation and says her initial task will be to acquaint herself with the ministry operations and its staff, after which, she will come up with her vision for the ministry.

Speaking to Capitalk100.4 FM news after the swearing-in ceremony of ministers and deputy ministers at State House yesterday morning, Minister Nzenza said although she was not expecting to be appointed minister, the task did not come as a total surprise.

“I was not expecting it but at the same time, I’m not surprised because what I bring to the role is years of experience particularly in the welfare sector and good governance. I’ve worked in senior management in Australia and also in the United States. More importantly, I come from kumusha (rural area), I understand issues to do with people’s basic needs, water, health, education and energy. Now I will put that experience into action.”
