Newly sworn in Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) Chairperson Justice Priscilla Chigumba has promised the nation to lead the electoral body in delivering a free, fair and credible election.

Justice Chigumba was officially sworn in by President Emmerson Mnangagwa at State House this morning, taking over from Justice Rita Makarau, who resigned from the position in December last year.

Speaking to Capitalk 100.4FM News on the sidelines of the swearing in ceremony, Justice Chigumba expressed gratitude to the honor bestowed on her.

“It is a great honor and privilege for one to be asked to serve my country in this capacity as the chairperson of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, and I promise the Zimbabwean people that I will deliver a free, fair and credible election.

“My mandate is very clear and that is to administer the law, and as a judge I do that on a daily basis,” said Justice Chigumba.

Also sworn in at the same ceremony were members of a Commission of Inquiry into the sale of state land in urban areas around the country, chaired by Justice Tendai Uchena.
