The Chitungwiza Residents Trust (CHITREST) has criticized government's decision to reinstate Dr George Makunde as Chitungwiza Town Clerk - following a recent council resolution to re-hire him.

In October 2017, Dr Makunde was fired after the caretaker commission running the affairs of the municipality had opted not to renew his contract which expired on August 19 2017.

Speaking to Capitalk FM News today, Chitungwiza residents trust Acting Director Ms Alice Kuvheya accused Dr Makunde of being incompetent, judging from his past years of service as Chitungwiza Town Clerk.

She argued that during the five years that Dr Makunde served as Chitungwiza Town Clerk, the council's service delivery had deteriorated leaving Chitungwiza in a poor state.

Ms Kuvheya added that Government was supposed to engage Chitungwiza residents before reinstating Dr Makunde who they had accused of corruption and abuse of office last year.

CHITREST has therefore resolved to march against the reinstatement of Dr George Makunde as their town clerk.
