13 perish in Kadoma accident

At least 13 people are feared dead after a Chawasarira bus collided with a commuter omnibus near Kadoma tollgate along the Harare-Bulawayo road this morning.

According to our reporter Walter Nyamukondiwa who is at the accident scene, the driver of the commuter omnibus reportedly turned in front of the oncoming Chawasarira bus resulting in the collision.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police is yet to confirm.

Five people died, three of them on the spot while three others were seriously injured when a Honda Odyssey they were travelling in veered off the road and overturned at the 115km peg along Chivhu-Nyazura Road.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police National Spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba confirmed the incident saying a 48-year-old male who was the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle due to speeding.

The deceased were identified by their next of kin as Rutendo Musiringofa aged 20, Tinotenda Bumhira aged 45, Delight Chimwe aged 9, Tafadzwa Kombo aged 45 and Joice Kapisa aged 30.

Senior Assistant Commissioner Charamba urged road traffic operators to exercise extreme caution and avoid speeding on the road to avoid unnecessary loss of lives.
